Why visit the Coleambally Region?
If you have never been through this part of the country, you may wonder, what is the attraction about this part of Australia? It has been said that the region is the beginning of the Southern Outback Region of NSW. The wide plains and huge skies make for some fabulous photography, star gazing, and just enjoyment of the serenity.
Coleambally, a town in New South Wales, is an Aboriginal name for a swift in flight. The region is home to several rare and endangered species of Bittern, the Southern Bell Frog and many other species of native flora and fauna, including kangaroos, Magpies, Galahs and many more.
Coleambally is one of the newest towns in NSW, officially opened in June 1968, designed to act as the hub of the Coleambally Irrigation Area. It could be said that ‘All roads lead to Coleambally’ – as it can be accessed by road from Sydney and Canberra via the Hume Highway and Burley Griffin Way and from Melbourne via the Hume Highway, Newell Highway, and the Kidman Way.
‘Coly’, as many locals know it, is a small town in the Riverina Region, within the Murrumbidgeee Council, situated just off the Kidman Way between Griffith and Jerilderie and 27 km from Darlington Point, NSW which is located next to the Murrumbidgee River.
The Gateway to Coleambally is the Lions Park at the junction of the Kidman Way and Kingfisher Avenue, that is well maintained by the local Council and members of Lions. The park features the famous Bucyrus Erie Class III Dragline, a huge beast of a machine, which was one of four imported from the USA in 1935, and used to excavate the main channels in the Murray Valley and Coleambally Irrigation Area in the early 1960’s. There is some local information and exhibits provided by Lions to inform travellers about the history and development of the Coleambally township and the region in general. There is a well-maintained children’s playground, public toilets, a picnic area and a dump point for motor homes and caravans.
Why stay at Coleambally Caravan Park?
The Coleambally Caravan Park, set amongst local native trees, and carpeted with green lawns and pretty gazania daisies, is a small, friendly, clean, and quiet park for those that are looking for a break in their journey, with easy access within a leisurely stroll to shops and services.
The entrance to the Coleambally Caravan Park is close to the Lions Park on Kingfisher Avenue.
Affordable rates of accommodation and a friendly welcome to the town are offered by the hosts at Coleambally Caravan Park. New owners have been putting in much work to refurbish the park since 2019. Previously it was becoming rather worn down, but with your patronage, it will only get better. The goal is to provide clean and comfortable accommodation without some of the fancy extras of some large city caravan parks. This means more affordable camping costs.
Accommodation at Coleambally Caravan Park consists of powered and unpowered sites, drive through sites, fully furnished self-contained cabins, budget cabins and powered / unpowered tent sites.
There are daily, weekly, short term accommodation options for singles, couples, families, and contractors working in the Coleambally and surrounding areas.
Commercial quality washing machines and dryer available.
$5.00 cold water wash and $5.00 to use the dryer. They also offer truck drivers or workers living off the land use of a shower for a small cost of $10.00 to have a refreshing shower while your clothes are washing and drying. (Please note that costs are to maintain cleanliness and durability of the equipment. Please understand that Park staff need to earn a living as well)
Coleambally Caravan Park is also pet friendly although this is only service for those who own their own caravan.
